Gardens & Science City

I took a couple days off work to spend time with Avalyn.  First up we went to the gardens to have her 5 year photo shoot.  While we waited for the photographer I snapped a couple myself.  This park is a special one because it's the same location where Ava got her 1st year pictures!!

Afterwards we met up with our friends to explore Science City

We stopped in at Crown Center for lunch at our favorite location Spin Pizza

The wheel of color at the Crayola store!

Every time we go to Target Ava asks if she can get an umbrella, but I've never gotten her one.  She found this rainbow one at the Crayola store and I gave it.  She loves this thing.  She carried it everywhere downtown!!  For a couple nights after she got it she even hung it on her bed when she went to sleep.

At this show I got Ava some flowers and told her she could give them to her favorite person.  Not a big surprise, she chose Jasmine, lol!

VBS

Ava attended VBS this year and just as I thought, she loved it. Especially the music and singing. I actually bought the CD this year and that's all she wants to listen to now. Very cute songs, and they are very catchy!

The little girl next to Ava is actually a girl from her preschool.  Ava was so excited to see her!!

At week end they totaled up the donation challenge (boys vs. girls).  The boys won so the girl got a pie in the face.

A week or so after VBS we had this interesting conversation while driving home from preschool.

Ava: Mom, Do you know what Jesus looks like?
Me:  Do you?
Ava:  Yes, he's a boy
Me:  Does he have brown hair?
Ava:  No, he doesn't have any hair
Me:  What does he wear?
Ava:  A karate outfit (I'm assuming she didn't know the word cloak or robe)
Ava:  He also rides a bird
Me:  Where does he live?  (I totally expected her to say Heaven)
Ava:  He lives in our hearts

Wow, talk about powerful.  I totally didn't expect her to say that!  I almost cried!

July 4th

We spent most of the day at the zoo. We got there right when the doors opened. It was great because most of the animals were up and moving around. The park was also pretty quiet for most of the time we were there so we were able to look at the exhibits without being rushed.

We were the only ones on the carousel so Ava got to ride the Kansas City Royals lion.

We even got to see the baby chimp!  So cute!

That evening we got to watch the city fireworks right outside in our back yard!

Fun in the Sun

More swimming fun!

Since it was so hot we went for a special treat.  Shaved ice!

Rainbow snow cone!  That was a "kid" size!

Once it started to melt, Ava put a straw in it and drank super fast.  She got her first brain freeze.  She was holding her eye, so I had to explain what happened!

She thought it was hilarious that it changed her tongue purple

Hair Care

So it's been a year and I decided to take Ava to get another blow out. Something special for her 5 year pictures.

Last year they were unable to blow it straight because they couldn't get the tension they needed (she was crying).  So they ended up blow drying it and then straightening it with a flat iron.

This year, they were able to get more tension.  Not the max, but better than last year.  They still needed to use the flat iron a little bit to straighten and curl it.

Beautiful!

Since it was straight, the next day we went to a real good hair cut.  Afterwards Ava got a little make up!

That night I used flexi rods and I was surprised at how cute it looked the next morning!
