Dentist Appointment

Recently Ava had her first dentist appointment.  I tried to hype up the appointment, and we kept practicing dentist at home.  I'd tell her she was going to have to say, "AHHH" and "CHEESE."
Then Id brush her teeth and say I was the dentist.

We arrived and everything was going well.  She sat in the chair and got to check out the dentist tools.

I was beginning to think it was going to be a breeze.  Well, things didn't go so well once they tried to recline the chair, lol.

So we ended up doing the appointment like this, lol.  After we got reclined she did really good with getting her teeth cleaned.  They flossed one tooth and then Ava was done.  By the time the actual dentist showed up things were going downhill.  Ava was tired of holding her mouth open, and she started crying because the dentist was tugging on her lips and cheeks. Luckily she got a quick look and said Ava's teeth look good.

Afterwards Ava got a little bag with a new toothbrush and toothpaste.  I kid you not, she GASPED OUT LOUD when she pulled out the toothbrush and it had Ariel on it!

Ava also got to pick a gift from the treasure box.  She picked a giant bubble want.  That was real fun trying to explain we couldn't play with it because we had to go to school, lol!!

  1. Poor thing. Chloe didn't like being reclined back either and got up out of the chair. Luckily she got back in, but I thought we were going to be done before we even started. I love that it seems like all dentists have a treat area for the kids!

  2. What a trooper! Glad to see how Ava went through that whole dental treatment process with all smiles. I'm really glad that you started to make her aware that good oral health is important this early. Thanks for sharing that! All the best to you and your family!

  3. It seems that Ava did very well on her dentist appointment. Most children would burst into tears just thinking about going to the dentist, let alone sitting in the chair. Anyway, it’s a good thing that she was able to get through it, and that she loved her new little mermaid-themed toothbrush. Thanks for sharing!

  4. As a mother myself, I commend you for efforts you made at home. That surely helped prepare Ava for her first dental appointment! Letting her play with the tools at the beginning of the visit was a great idea. Comforting her helped and getting a treat made for a happy ending! Great job in helping Ava at her first visit!
