Savannah has beautiful historic homes. Many have been turned into B&B's and museums. Here are a few I captured during our trip. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to tour the insides.
Mongolia House
Mercer House. You may recognize it from the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil."
Andrew Low House
Rainbow Row
"Haint Blue" House. It is believed this color warded of evil spirits. It also, unknowingly, helped keep away mosquitoes during the yellow fever pandemic (because it resembles water).
Owens-Thomas House
Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace (The Founder of the Girl Scouts)
Davenport House
Do you know why many historic homes have two staircases? It's because men were not allowed to see women's ankles. So women went up one side and men the other!

Thanks for that great tour. I have only been through Sav. on the way to Fla., never took the tour! Someday! :)
ReplyDeleteThey are so pretty! The staircase fact was very interesting!
ReplyDeleteThose houses are beautiful! Such great history.
ReplyDeleteI have dreamed often of visiting Savannah. You were so kind to give me this beautiful, historic tour of the lovely homes in the city. Oh, if the homes could speak, the stories they would tell. Thanks for sharing.
