Mowing
We had the first mow of the season and Avalyn was pretty excited about is. She was jumping up and down and laughing at dad.
Ava watched Jon empty the clippings into the bag and then started pulling grass and putting it in the bag!
This is how you do it dad |

Ava's First Field Trip - Cows
During the field trip we watched a cow milking demonstration. It was interesting but at times I could hardly keep a straight face because the instructior kept saying "tits" and was using big words like Homogenizing. I mean, the group of kids were ages 3 and under, lol.
Milk. 2 Gallons in just minutes. |
After the milking demonstration the kids got to be helpers and feed the baby cows.

Ava's First Field Trip
Avalyns had her very first school field trip! The group went to Deanna Rose Farmstead. It was a pretty chilly morning, but the kids still enjoyed themselves. They got to see different farm animals, pet a few of them, and feed cows, goats, and ducks. The farm had educational sessions on milking cows (will be a separate post) and there was also an Indian display with teepee's, animal furs, and different animal bones. At the end of the trip they were able to play at the playground and ride the tractor tricycles.
After the incident with the ducks I was wondering how Ava would react to the animals. No major meltdowns. But, she wasn't interested in getting too close.

Cooking With Herbs
Last weekend some of my girlfriends and I went to Fire Lake Camp for a Cooking With Herbs class.
It was a lot of fun. Plus we got to tour the place and it was so pretty and quiet! This is a families actual residence but they host dinners, picnics, and classes throughout the year.

Kayaks, bikes, hammocks, lounge chairs, picnic tables, and hanging lanterns. Does this sound like the place to be or what?
The farm home is beautiful, open, and inviting. It had a lot of neat architectural details that you don't see in most homes these days. Like exposed beams and a spiral staircase.
We learned about growing herbs, what herbs go best with what food, and different ways to use excess herbs (in oils, butters, and flour).

I highly recommend this place. Check their website for details on upcoming harvest dinners and classes.
